How Web CMP works with other products

How the consent banner connects to Monitoring and Launcher

Last updated About 2 hours ago

Consent Studio is made up of three products that work together: Web CMP, Launcher and Monitoring. Web CMP is the consent banner. It asks your visitors for consent, records their answer in the consent log, and sends consent signals such as Google Consent Mode and Microsoft UET Consent Mode.

This article explains how Web CMP connects to the other two products, and where you manage what.

Web CMP and Monitoring

The tracking technologies your banner lists come from Monitoring. Monitoring scans the pages you specify, matches what it finds against our catalogue and puts each tracking technology in a category.

  • Tracking technologies are managed in Monitoring, not in Web CMP. To add a tracking technology, change its category or description, or correct our catalogue information, go to Monitoring โ†’ Tracking Technologies. See How to manually register tracking technologies.

  • Empty categories. If you hide empty consent categories, Web CMP uses Monitoring's list to decide which categories are empty.

  • Recommendations check your banner. Monitoring's recommendations flag problems in your Web CMP setup. Examples are consent mode loading in the wrong order, a platform integration that is available but not switched on, or a missing privacy policy URL for an activated language. Each one links to the place to fix it. See About Web Recommendations & Troubleshooting.

  • First scan. Monitoring also scans your website when your banner is first detected on it.

Web CMP and Launcher

Web CMP does not hold back scripts that are hard-coded in your website. Launcher does: a tag in Launcher waits until the visitor's choice in your banner allows it to fire.

  • One script. Launcher's script also loads your banner, so it replaces the Web CMP script. Do not install both.

  • Same consent categories. Launcher tags use the same functional, analytics and marketing categories your banner asks about.

  • Your banner settings still apply. Styling, texts, languages, geotargeting and integrations stay under Web CMP, also when you use Launcher.
