"Configure privacy policy URL"

What this Monitoring suggestion means, why you're seeing it and how to resolve it

Last updated About 2 hours ago

Configure privacy policy URL is a suggestion from Consent Studio Monitoring, not an error. In the recommendations email it is listed under Suggestions. Active recommendations show on the Start page of your domain's dashboard and on the Recommendations page (Monitoring dropdown in the top bar).

What this recommendation means

At least one of the languages you activated for your consent banner has no privacy policy URL yet. The recommendation reads:

"One or more activated languages are missing a privacy policy URL."

Your website and consent banner keep working as usual.

The privacy policy URL is the link behind the privacy policy reference in your banner's footer text, so visitors can open your privacy policy from the banner. When no URL is available, the banner leaves that reference out.

Why you're seeing it

A privacy policy URL is set per language. If you added a language to your banner but didn't fill in a privacy policy URL for it, you get this suggestion. The languages of your banner are managed under Web CMP > Behaviour > Multilanguage. See How to add more languages to your banner.

How to resolve it

1

Add a privacy policy URL for each activated language

Under Web CMP > Translations, fill in the Privacy Policy URL field for each activated language. See Add a privacy policy URL to your banner.

2

Check the result

Monitoring checks your setup again in its next scan. See the Monitoring scanning FAQ for when that happens. Once every activated language has a privacy policy URL, the suggestion closes by itself after the next completed scan.

Don't want to act on it now?

You can dismiss the suggestion on the Recommendations page. Dismissed recommendations don't re-appear for a configurable cooldown period. See About Web Recommendations & Troubleshooting.

Common questions

My website works fine. Is something wrong?

No. This is a suggestion, not an error. It only tells you that a privacy policy URL is missing for one or more of your banner's languages.

Does Consent Studio create a privacy policy for me?

No. Consent Studio only generates a cookie and tracking technology declaration, which you place in your own privacy policy and/or on a dedicated cookies page. See How to place the Consent Studio cookie and tracking technology declaration on your website.

Do I need a privacy policy URL for every language?

Yes. Each activated language has its own Privacy Policy URL field, and the suggestion appears as long as at least one of them is empty. You can enter the same URL for several languages.
