"Enable Microsoft UET Consent Mode"
What the Enable Microsoft UET Consent Mode Monitoring recommendation means, why you're seeing it and how to resolve it
Last updated About 2 hours ago
Enable Microsoft UET Consent Mode is an urgent recommendation in Consent Studio Monitoring. Active recommendations show on the Start page of your domain's dashboard and on the Recommendations page (Monitoring dropdown in the top bar). Collaborators on the domain may also receive it by email.
What this recommendation means
Your website runs the Microsoft UET tag (used by Microsoft Advertising), but UET Consent Mode is switched off in Consent Studio. The recommendation says:
"Your site runs the Microsoft UET tag, but UET Consent Mode is switched off in Consent Studio, so Microsoft never learns what your visitors consented to. Microsoft requires a consent signal for visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland: without one your conversions stop counting, your remarketing lists stop filling, and the Microsoft cookies on your site are being set without consent."
Why you're seeing it
Monitoring found the UET tag while UET Consent Mode is off
During a scan, Monitoring found the Microsoft UET tag on your website. Because UET Consent Mode is switched off for this domain, Consent Studio does not pass your visitors' choices on to that tag.
How to resolve it
Click Manage Consent Modes on the recommendation. You can also go to Web CMP > Behaviour and open the Consent Modes tab.
Switch on Enable UET Consent Mode ("Also known as Microsoft (UET) Consent Mode.") and save your changes.
Check the setup with Using Microsoft UET Consent Mode with Consent Studio. For example, the Consent Studio script must load before the UET tag.
After you switch it on, Monitoring checks whether the UET tag actually picks up the consent signal. If it doesn't, you'll see Microsoft UET Consent Mode not registering.
Common questions
We don't use Microsoft Advertising. Why do we see this?
Monitoring found the UET tag on your website anyway, for example via a plugin, an app or a tag manager. If you don't need it, remove the tag. The recommendation then closes after the next completed scan.
Can I dismiss it?
Yes. It comes back after 90 days if the UET tag is still there and UET Consent Mode is still off.
