Use the Consent Studio declaration to declare which tracking technologies your website uses

Introduction

Different privacy regulations often have one thing in common: consent for the processing of your users'/visitors' personally identifiable information must be given freely and in a well-informed manner.

One of our duties in being your CMP of choice is to help with the latter. We scan your website for tracking technologies and match the ones we detect with the tracking technologies we already know. These explanations are then translated to the languages that you use in your consent banner and are used to help you declare which technologies you specifically use and what it means to grant consent in the three consent categories: functional, analytics and marketing.

Tracking technology explanations can be shared with your users/visitors in three ways using our platform:

  1. Through the consent banner (in the top right corner there is an Overview button);

  2. Through a public web page on https://consent.studio/[your domain] (example: https://consent.studio/vallonic.com). You can also open it with the Public Page button under Monitoring > Tracking Technologies;

  3. Through a declaration that you place on your website yourself, for example on your privacy policy page. It shows the tracking technologies currently declared for your website, together with contextual information such as a visitor's current Consent ID.

The first two methods are available by default. The last one, the declaration on your own website, requires action from your side.

What the declaration shows

The declaration lists your tracking technologies per category, each in a table with the columns Type, Identifier, Description, Expiry and Source.

  • Your corrections are included. If you correct a tracking technology in Monitoring (for example its category, description, vendor or expiry, or switch on This website is the vendor), the declaration and your banner show your version.

  • The Source links to a privacy page. The vendor in the Source column links to the privacy page of whoever is responsible for the tracking technology: the vendor's own page, or your own privacy policy for tools that process data on your behalf and for tracking technologies placed by your website's own software. If you haven't set a privacy policy URL, those have no link. See "Configure privacy policy URL".

  • Title and introduction. You can change the declaration's title and body text per language under Web CMP > Translations, in the Declaration section.

Placing the declaration on your website

Prerequisites

  • You need a way to add HTML code to the page where you want your declaration to appear.

Embed code

Use one of the following code snippets to have your declaration placed automatically:

Option 1

<div cs-declaration></div>

Option 2

<div id="cs-declaration"></div>

Styling the declaration

At this time, we offer a plain HTML table. You can style this any way you want.

Troubleshooting

"My CMS removes this code when I save the page"

  • If you have been using the first option, with the HTML attribute, please replace it with the second option.

  • If your CMS does not allow empty <div> tags at all and removes them, please put some text inside of it. Three dots, for example:

    <div id="cs-declaration">...</div>
  • If this does not work, please contact our support team, so we can investigate your specific case.

"The declaration is not up-to-date"

Due to caching, the declaration can be outdated for a while. Please wait some time for the declaration to catch up with the tracking technologies currently declared for your website.

New tracking technologies only appear after a scan has found them, or after you've added them yourself under Monitoring > Tracking Technologies.
