"Microsoft UET Consent Mode not registering"

What the Microsoft UET Consent Mode not registering Monitoring recommendation means, why you're seeing it and how to resolve it

Last updated About 3 hours ago

Microsoft UET Consent Mode not registering is an urgent recommendation in Consent Studio Monitoring. Active recommendations show on the Start page of your domain's dashboard and on the Recommendations page (Monitoring dropdown in the top bar). Collaborators on the domain may also receive it by email.

What this recommendation means

UET Consent Mode is switched on in Consent Studio, but the Microsoft UET tag on your website does not pick up the consent signals Consent Studio sends. The recommendation says:

"Your site loads the Microsoft UET tag, but it is not picking up the consent signals Consent Studio sends. Microsoft requires a consent signal for visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland: without one your UET conversions stop counting and your remarketing lists stop filling."

During a scan, Monitoring looks at the pages where the UET tag loads and checks whether the tag has registered Consent Mode. Pages without the UET tag are not a problem.

Why you're seeing it

The UET tag loads before Consent Studio

If the UET tag starts before the Consent Studio script, it has already started without a consent signal. This also happens when the UET tag is placed directly in your website code above the Consent Studio script.

Another consent implementation overrides Consent Studio

Another cookie banner, plugin or custom code on your website sets the UET consent state as well, and overrides the signal from Consent Studio.

More causes and checks are in the troubleshooting section of Using Microsoft UET Consent Mode with Consent Studio.

How to resolve it

  1. Make sure the Consent Studio script loads before the Microsoft UET tag.

  2. Remove other cookie banners or consent code that also controls the UET tag.

  3. Check the result on your website: open the browser console and run window.uetq.uetConfig.consent.enabled. It should return true.

The Microsoft UET Consent Mode documentation button on the recommendation opens the full guide.

The recommendation closes by itself after the next completed scan in which the UET tag picks up the consent signal from Consent Studio.

If you switch off UET Consent Mode in Consent Studio Web CMP instead, Consent Studio Monitoring also stops checking and the recommendation currently stays open.
