How to add your first tag to Consent Studio Launcher: consent-first client-side tag manager
It’s great that you’re choosing for the Consent Studio way for client-side tag management - sovereign European infrastructure, performant and consent-first. This guide will help you get started with tag management in Consent Studio CMP.
Managing Tags
First, make sure that you’re logged in to the dashboard and are scoped to the domain that you wish to manage tags for.
Workspaces in Consent Studio are tied to domains.
In the top bar navigation, head over to Launcher. In here, under Workspace, open the Tags overview. This overview is at the core of your tag management and lists all the active tags.

At the top of the page, you will see four items, which we will explain further down in this guide, although we must say that we believe the labels speak for themselves.

Further down the same Tags page, you will see all the tags that are in your current draft. One more thing that will most likely catch your eye, is that one tag is already present. It’s the Consent Studio CMP tag.
When using Consent Studio Launcher, your Consent Studio Web CMP consent banner is bundled together with any published version of your tags workspace.
Feel free to click the Consent Studio tag to familiarise yourself with the fact that any tag in the list can be clicked on in order to manage its settings.

In Consent Studio Launcher, we offer the same settings for Google Consent Mode as our official tag for Google Tag Manager would contain.
When you click Save Changes at the bottom of any tag settings modal, your changes will be saved in the draft version of your workspace.
Adding your first tag
From the Launcher library
At the top of the page, you will see the + Tag button, which opens a dropdown menu with two options. One of them being Create from Template. This will open the Templates panel.

Tags in the library are grouped in logical categories. Scroll down and find your preferred tag.

You can also use the search bar to find your desired tag. If a tag is not yet in the list, feel free to click the Request a Template button. Of course, you can always create a tag from scratch as well.
When clicking the Use Template button, we will direct you to a settings page that is similar to the From Scratch approach, which is explained in the remainder of this guide - please continue from the “From scratch” section below.
The Templates library is managed by Consent Studio generally. Tags with a coloured logo are managed by their own vendors in coordination with Consent Studio.
Unless stated otherwise, we are by no means affiliated to the vendors/companies listed. Their presence in our library solely serves as a convenience for our shared customers and is meant to assist them in easily adding these vendors’ tags on their website when they use Consent Studio Launcher.
From scratch
At the top of the page, you will see the + Tag button, which opens a dropdown menu with two options. One of them being Create from Scratch.

Click that option to open the custom tag editor. This will allow you to add your first tag, of which we will assume that this will be plain HTML code. Plain HTML code may be used to add custom JavaScript code - <script type="text/javascript"></script>.

Settings for any tag
Do not forget to give your tag a Name. Perhaps you would like to add Notes to your tag to further future collaboration with colleagues. But most importantly, do not forget to manage the consent settings via the Consent Check area. In short:
Neutral: these tags may be loaded anyways.

Defer: this is when you rely on a third-party mechanism, like Google Consent Mode, the Shopify Customer Privacy API, any other third-party integration that either Consent Studio offers out of the box or you have created yourself using our JavaScript SDK.
Configure: here you can select one or more combined groups of consent categories in order for this tag to fire.

When you scroll down, you will see the Triggering area. For the sake of this simple guide, we will keep the triggering at All Pages.

When you scroll down further, you will find the option to save your tag (Create) and to immediately start configuring a new one while doing so.
